Abstract
This study was carried out to analyze the effect of grafting and leaf age on the photosynthetic ability of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris S. cv. Dalgona). Chlorophyll content was highest as 19.7 §¶¡¤g^(-1) FW on 30-day old leaf in grafted plant and 18.8§¶¡¤g^(-1) FW on 15-day old leaf in non-grafted plant, and least as 6.6 and 7.8 §¶¡¤g^(-1) FW in grafted and non-grafted, respectively, on 75-day after leaf expansion. Photosynthetic rate was increased from 15 to 30 days after leaf expansion, thereafter decreased showing sharp drop on 75 days after leaf expansion. Sucrose, glucose, galactose, and fructose contents began to increase from 15-day after leaf expansion showing peak in 60-day old leaf, and showed rapid decrease in 75-day old leaf in both of grafted and non-grafted plants.
